Play & Distraction Therapy

CCLASP is proud to sponsor a Buzzy for each child requiring treatment at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and Glasgow as a form of distraction therapy. Buzzy is a form of pain relief designed for children and helps needle pain when going for treatment by confusing your body’s own nerves and distracting attention away from the poke by vibrating on the skin, thereby dulling or eliminating sharp pain. Designed to look like a Bee, it is a great distraction technique in an often distressing situation and is a reusable device which can be taken to all hospital appointments. Each Buzzy comes complete with quiz and play cards that parents can also use to distract their child when receiving painful injections. To receive information on how your child could benefit from a Buzzy please complete the contact form below.

We also provide twice weekly visits from Stevie the Clown as play and entertainment in the wards to take children’s minds off their treatment. Stevie has been a part of the CCLASP journey for years and is a familiar face among the hospital staff where he welcomes everyone with his magic tricks and jokes. Dressed in bright colours and face paint, Stevie cannot be missed and he never fails to make children smile even when they may be having a hard day. Be sure to give him a wave if you see him on the ward!
