Family Support

With most of our team at CCLASP having been personally affected by childhood cancer, we can provide parents with readily-available support and information that’s reliable and from people that understand first-hand the emotional turmoil of a child facing such a frightening and confusing illness. This enables a level of support and understanding that’s impossible without first-hand experience and is what makes us so trusted amongst the families we care for.

CCLASP are always available to meet with families soon after diagnosis to answer questions that you and your child may have, and with over twenty years experience as a charity we are used to explaining what is happening and what you can expect during treatment in a way that is easy for you and your family to understand. We also try to help wherever possible with practical concerns and can offer holidays and distraction therapy for your child  to make treatment a little more bearable.

We have spent many years building up relationships with other like-minded charities so as to access much needed resources for a sick child and their families. We can let you know about other organisations that may be able to help you and put you in touch with other sources of support.

We are always here to talk to

We are always here to talk to

To help build a closer relationship with families, we run weekly coffee mornings on Ward 2 at the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh (small room on right hand side as you enter) every Tuesday at 11am – 12pm. This is a chance for parents to meet and catch up, receive advice, share their feelings, or just relax. Our Leith-based office is also open Monday – Friday, 11am – 5.30pm and families can drop in anytime they need somebody to talk to.

As well as families experiencing new diagnosis and treatment, CCLASP are there for bereaved families. Bereavement is one of the hardest things you will ever have to deal with and emotions can be too difficult to manage. It is natural that with such painful and devastating news you may have lots of questions but you don’t need to cope with this alone. There is plenty of support and information available when you’re ready for it and CCLASP will try to be with you every step of the way.

To access any of our family support services please call us on 0131 467 7420, email or visit us during office hours where we are happy, and ready, to answer any questions you have.
